SUSTAINABILITY AT NAFA
We are proud to introduce a range of sustainability initiatives at our events. Please join us in our efforts to reduce waste and protect the environment.
Returnable Food Implements
Through a partnership with Eco Trilogy in 2024 we used returnable bowls, cups, sporks, and plates made from 75% Australian-made materials that are 100% recyclable. These were made available at all food vendor locations and the hydration station. Visitors helped minimise waste by returning these items after use to our designated bin stations.
Hydration Station
Each year we provide a hydration station for the community to use. We encourage everyone to bring their own reusable water bottles to reduce waste.
Recycling and Waste Management
To support our zero-waste initiative, we strategically place recycling bins and waste food bins around the festival grounds. Our dedicated cleaning team monitor and manage these stations throughout the event to ensure proper disposal and recycling.
NAFA partners with MAMS Redeem Townsville who manage the collection of recyclable cans and bottles, with all proceeds of this collection going to a local Primary School.
Environmental Impact
Through these initiatives, we aim to eliminate approximately 77,000 items from entering the landfill. We believe that together, we can make a significant positive impact on the environment.
Partnered with ReefClean's Ditch the Flick campaign for the Festival Hub's smoking area, this initiative supports reducing cigarette butt litter and backing a better way of disposing of cigarette butts.
FSC Mix Certified Program
Our printed programs feature the FSC Mix logo, signifying that it is made with a mixture of materials from FSC-certified forests, recycled materials, and/or FSC-controlled wood. While controlled wood doesn’t come from FSC-certified forests, it mitigates the risk of the material originating from unacceptable sources. This certification reflects our commitment to responsible sourcing and sustainability.
