Workshop Description
This workshop provides an exceptional and rare opportunity for Townsville youth (ages 15 – 21) to engage with the highly specialised printmaking practice of lithography. The two-day course is an introduction to the fundamentals of the lithographic process and is designed for youth with a strong interest in developing their artistic skills.
Under the guidance of a local artist Margaret Robertson, attendees will create an image by drawing directly onto the surface of a lithographic limestone. Participants will learn how to use drawing media such as crayon and tusche to achieve varied marks, washes, and tones. Facilitators will assist attendees to prepare the stone for printing by applying an etch and to use Umbrella’s lithography press to produce an edition of prints. Participants will also have the opportunity to explore polyester plate lithography during the course of the workshop.
What to bring:
• Wear closed in shoes
• Sketches and images to use as reference material
• Packed lunch and drink bottle
Limited to 8 spaces (ages 15-21) | Bookings close on the Wednesday prior to the Workshop Day at 4pm. | The workshops will take place in Umbrella’s downstairs studio at 408 Flinders St (next to Mary Who?
